Creating Your Own Capstone

Students have the option of creating their own ideas for capstone projects. This process should be started far in advance of the semester in which the student will start the capstone. Requirements for forming your own capstone as a sustainability student include:

  • First meeting with the Assistant Director to discuss.
  • Finding a faculty mentor in a relevant discipline who is willing to come on board as the capstone advisor.
  • At least one additional teammate from an academic background different from your own.
  • A drafted one page problem statement/summary like the sample projects provided on this site.

For students planning to start their capstone in Fall, this process should be completed no later than April 1st in the prior Spring semester. For students starting their capstone in Spring, this process should be completed no later than October 15th in the prior Fall semester.
